MDM2 and Tesoro Venture Capital Launch MedTech Commercialization Initiative to Accelerate Healthcare Innovation

MDM2 and Tesoro Venture Capital have launched a six-month pilot collaboration designed to accelerate the commercialization of innovative medical device, digital health, and AI-enabled healthcare startups.
The collaboration brings together MDM2’s healthcare and medical device ecosystem with Tesoro’s venture platform, commercialization capabilities, strategic corporate relationships, and global innovation network. Together, the organizations aim to help emerging companies move more efficiently from innovation to market by connecting founders with healthcare providers, industry leaders, investors, and strategic partners.
The pilot will focus on helping participating companies explore commercialization pathways that may include clinical validation, pilot programs, fundraising, regulatory guidance, manufacturing support, and market access.
The initiative reflects the growing convergence taking place across healthcare, where artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductors, intelligent sensors, edge computing, robotics, and digital manufacturing are reshaping the future of medical technology. As medical devices become increasingly intelligent and software-defined, collaboration across healthcare, semiconductor, manufacturing, and technology sectors is becoming more important to accelerating innovation and improving patient outcomes.
Arizona is particularly well positioned for that convergence.
Greater Phoenix is home to a rapidly expanding semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, major healthcare institutions, growing artificial intelligence capabilities, advanced manufacturing resources, and a collaborative innovation community. For next-generation MedTech companies, those strengths can create a compelling environment to develop, validate, manufacture, and scale new technologies.
“Healthcare is entering a new era where the next generation of innovation will be driven by advances in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced computing, and intelligent medical devices,” said Andy Lombard, Founder and Managing Partner of Tesoro Venture Capital. “We believe the future of MedTech will increasingly depend on the convergence of these technologies, making this partnership with MDM2 particularly strategic.
By combining MDM2’s healthcare ecosystem with Tesoro’s global network across AI, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and venture capital, we’re creating an environment where breakthrough technologies can move more quickly from research to commercialization.”
For MDM2, the collaboration creates another pathway to connect promising companies with the people and resources that can help them move forward.
“Arizona has built tremendous momentum as a destination for healthcare innovation and advanced manufacturing,” said Kathleen Lee, Senior Vice President, Regional Initiatives of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
“Our collaboration with Tesoro creates an exciting opportunity to connect innovative startups with healthcare providers, medical device manufacturers, investors, and strategic partners,” said Chris Yoo, General Partner at Xcellerant Ventures and venture development lead for MDM2. “By combining our respective strengths, we can accelerate commercialization, strengthen Arizona’s MedTech ecosystem, and help bring transformative healthcare technologies to patients faster.”
During the pilot, Tesoro and MDM2 will work together to identify and engage qualified startups, facilitate introductions across the healthcare and MedTech ecosystem, and pursue commercialization opportunities.
The program is also designed to provide participating companies with a more structured way to assess their readiness and identify areas where additional support may be needed. That can include mentorship, introductions to healthcare providers and investors, connections to manufacturers and industry partners, and guidance around commercialization and market access.
The initial pilot is expected to engage a select group of qualified companies, with the organizations using the experience to evaluate what works, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop recommendations for a sustainable long-term model.
For Tesoro, the initiative expands its broader commercialization network across semiconductors, artificial intelligence, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, academia, venture capital, and economic development. For MDM2, it adds another practical resource for Arizona MedTech companies working to navigate the complex path from innovation to adoption.
Looking ahead, both organizations see the pilot as a potential foundation for a longer-term collaboration that strengthens Arizona’s role in MedTech innovation.
By connecting entrepreneurs with healthcare providers, global corporations, investors, research institutions, and manufacturing partners, MDM2 and Tesoro aim to create more opportunities for promising technologies to move from concept to commercialization.
